Testimonies from Fall 2009

Read what teens and their mentors have said about the value and impact of Student Leadership Conferences on their lives and the lives those within their spheres of influence. The following testimonies are from past Student Leadership Conferences.

"The Lord put on my heart how I need to be a better Leader. As a leader, I have positive and negative influence on others. Personally, I need to work on my type of influence and make it so that I am not only a strong Christian Leader, but a good Christian friend. I need to remember I am always being watched by others, so I need to watch what I do. God also put on my heart my leadership role at school. I realized how I need to be a better leader to others and my friends." - Student

"The Lord has taught me this week to be a more loving, faithful friend like the example of Jonathan, I was thinking, would I really do for my friends what Jonathan did for David? It was really encouraging to learn how I can help my friends and treat them the way the Bible teaches. I plan to use the life-lessons I've learned this week as I go back home and start up school again." - Student

The Lord has used this Leadership Conference to remind me of the importance of being committed to all those whom I lead. Sometimes it gets a bit frustrating trying to work with those who don't seem to be on the ball, sharp, on fire Christians. Through this Conference the Lord has reminded me that those people are probably the ones who need my friendship leadership the most. As I go home I have determined through God's grace I am going to renew my efforts to reach and influence those." - Sponsor

"God has taught me much during this Leadership Conference. He has taught me how to be a good leader by being a godly friend. There are many people in my school who I could be a better friend to influence for the Lord. God has also taught me that when I'm in a leadership role I am accountable to God for the people under me and the way I influence them." - Student

"The Lord has really spoken to my heart over the past few days. One thing in particular has stuck out to me though and that is 'A model friend is one who looks for a need to meet, not one to meet my needs.' I have made the decision to pray for my friends' needs more than my own, and to also pray that I can effectively meet the need of a potential friend. Thank you so much." - Student

"Galatians 1:10 spoke to my heart! The Lord showed me some ways that I have tried to please man rather than God in my life. The Lord also spoke to my heart about being more passionate about His work! Psalm 73:25" - Sponsor

"I need to learn to respect those that are younger than me. My younger brother and I like to tease each other, but we can sometimes go too far. I need to learn to respect him, and to control my tongue. God has taught me to listen more to people and to try to make more friends than just keping to my own group." - Student

"I would like to say first of all that I really enjoy coming to the Leadership Conference. It is a highlight to my year. This year's Leadership Conference has been amazing. I loved all the preaching, and the Lord spoke to me about getting closer to Him. I also enjoyed learning about how to be a better friend." - Student

"The Conference as a whole was excellent as always. It is always a very pleasant and helpful time. We have made it a part of our teen training program since 1997, and many are the young adults whose lives are different now because of the program. God has helped me this year to examine my goals, long-term and short-term, and to refocus upon the ones that are eternal, demote the ones that are not. Also, to break out of a routine that endangers the posiblility of ending up average - or less than excellent for God." - Sponsor

"I was taught to apply the principle of selflessness to the more specific area of friendship. I have been applying the idea of selflessness to my life, but this Conference presented the principle in the area of friends. Not only did I learn that, but I was also encouraged to live out Philippians 4:9. I was encouraged just to DO what I know I should be doing and to DO what I have been taught." - Student
